Teenage Pregnancy
1:20 AM
We all know that problems are around our community. But we forgot that ‘teenage pregnancy’ is also a community problem that causes teenagers to stop attending school and become a teenage mom. That’s why we’ve decided that the first problem in our community that we’re going to talk about is ‘teenage pregnancy’.
We decided to interview our friend who’s in this situation.
At first, we don’t know how to approach her but then, I remembered she’s our friend so there’s nothing to worry about.
Let’s just keep her name “Chelsea” a 16 year old girl who’s 8 months pregnant, her due month is next month which is August. We interviewed her yesterday (July 11) at Infinitea. She came with her boyfriend. These are the questions that we asked:
Are you ready to become a teenage mom?
Yes, I am ready to become a mother to my child
How old are you?
16
What was your parent’s reaction when they found out that you were pregnant?
They got mad and disappointed but not to the point that they hurt me physically. I understand them because I hurt them but they still accepted.
Do you plan to keep the baby?
yes
Are you excited or scared?
Excited and scared at the same time.
Is this a big surprise to you?
Yes of course
What did the father's parents think about your pregnancy?
They were happy because it will be their first grandchild.
How old were you when you first found out that you’re pregnant?
16
How did you feel when you found out that you’re pregnant?
Nervous
How did you found out that you’re pregnant?
The baby is already in 2 months when we found out, I noticed that I missed my period. I thought Im just delayed. My mom noticed it too. Then I vomited a lot of times until my mom witnessed it while were in the sala. She brought me to the doctor and had an ultrasound. That’s how we knew about it.
How did you tell your friends, family and the father about the situation?
My mom opposed to say it to my friends and also we hid it (about my pregnancy) from our relatives for about 5 to 6 months.
Did any of them say you should get an abortion? If so, what are your thoughts about abortion.
None.
Talking of abortion, do you plan on keeping the baby or terminating the pregnancy?
I’ve never thought of abortion.
If you keep the pregnancy, do you think of adoption when the baby comes or are you keeping him/her?
We will keep the baby.
How long have you and the baby’s father been together?
We just turned 1 year last week.
Are you planning to attend school after you give birth or if the baby grows?
Yes I will attend school. Maybe next year.
What and how did you approached your boyfriend about the situation?
I asked him if he’s willing to take the responsibility as a father to our child and he said yes.
What is your advice to the other girls who are also in your situation?
Have faith in Him and have strength, do not ever think about abortion because the child is a blessing from above. What if your child become a successful someday? Well it means that you raise your child well.
After a few minutes of chat with her, I also found out that she’s supposed to be in US right now but they didn’t forced her to apply for a visa because the baby bump is already visible last May. She also told me that Go has a plan for them for letting them stay here.
So hopefully with this interview, teenagers should be aware of the results of what they’re doing. They should keep in mind that they should prioritize their studies before anything. And please girls, Take care of yourselves.
